Abstract An alternative expression is derived for the evaluation of the electric field in the source region. This expression caters for a finite size, instead of an infinitesimally small, principal volume and does not contain the source dyadic term. This expression provides a fast and accurate evaluation of the electric field inside an arbitrary shape finite size principal volume. Numerical calculations on using the new expression are provided.
