Sat, 23 Jul 2016 01:50:43 m.marrington@uq.edu.au (Mary-Anne Marrington) eSpace download and page view statistics http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#128 The file download and page view statistics for publications in eSpace currently may not be accurate and are being reviewed by our development team. Until this issue is resolved eSpace statistics should not be considered reliable. Thu, 11 Dec 2014 07:42:53 a.heath@library.uq.edu.au (Andrew Heath) UQ adopts open access policy for research http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#119 The University of Queensland (UQ) is moving to ensure the results of its research are widely available. See full story here Tue, 11 Feb 2014 00:28:56 a.heath@library.uq.edu.au (Andrew Heath) PREFS - Account Preferences http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#107 When you set 'Remember search parameters' to 'Yes' via the PREFS tab, date filters applied to searches will now be remembered between searches Wed, 13 Mar 2013 03:03:55 m.marrington@uq.edu.au (Mary-Anne Marrington) New contact number for UQ eSpace http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#84 The phone number for UQ eSpace is now 07 3346 9775 Thu, 07 Jan 2010 22:57:27 m.gauld@uq.edu.au (Margaret Gauld) Search Faceting enabled http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#82 We've turned on search faceting on a number of fields for searches in UQ eSpace. So far it seems like it will be a helpful feature, and it will likely be refined over time. This was one of the benefits of using Apache Solr as the UQ eSpace search engine, along with fulltext (eg PDF) text hightlighting in the search string, which we will roll out in the future. Fri, 19 Sep 2008 08:26:01 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) Change to download statistics algorithms http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#79 We are now enforcing the Project Counter (http://projectcounter.org) statistics recommendations. We were already excluding hits from web crawlers (Googlebot, Yahoo etc) from our statistical counts, but we are now also excluding double clicks to comply fully with Project Counter's code of practice (release 3).
These changes have been made retrospective on all statistics gathered from UQ eSpace as well as the statistics we imported from ePrintsUQ (which did not exclude crawlers or double clicks).

For more information on how UQ eSpace calculates download statistics, see the new page in the UQ eSpace FAQ.
Thu, 04 Sep 2008 00:10:34 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) Field of Research Codes http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#78 We have implemented the new Field of Research (FoR) codes within UQ eSpace. These are meant to replace the now superseded RFCD codes. Please assign FoR codes from now on instead of RFCD codes to any items you create. We will eventually convert all RFCD codes in records to their FoR equivalents. Wed, 06 Aug 2008 01:43:25 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) New search engine http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#73 We implemented the Solr search tool within UQ eSpace last week. This allows more powerful searching from the Quick Search box. You can now search for author names in Quick Search. You can use wildcards such as * for multiple characters, e.g. experiment* or ? for a single character, e.g. wom?n. Proximity searching and full Boolean logic can also be used. More details at http://lucene.apache.org/java/docs/queryparsersyntax.html. Tue, 17 Jun 2008 00:11:48 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) UQ eSpace functionality -- examples http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#57 Uq eSpace supports text files, PDFs, multimedia, images and a range of digital formats. See the examples below for what UQ eSpace can do.
A sound recording:
Rosemary Dobson reads from her own work

A book chapter:
Gwen Harwood : Collected Poems

A multi-part thesis with animations:
Student Thesis

Book cover art:
Carter Brown book cover

A photograph:
Miss Equal Pay in sportscar during May Day procession 1967 Brisbane

A journal article:
Refereed medical journal article

Archaeological fieldwork:
From Gooreng Gooreng Cultural Heritage Project

Architectural photographs:
From Digilib: Queensland Country Towns

Library Video Competition:
Winning entry
Runner up

Wed, 09 Apr 2008 01:05:20 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) Add a 'Comment' to a record http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#50 Logged-in users can now leave comments on individual records within the repository, and assign ratings to records. The Add a Comment functionality should appear at the bottom of each individual record. The Comment feature should be especially useful with image records. For example, users can add comments that will help identify people and places in photographs. The feature can also be used to update information about publications. Authors can use it themselves to advise readers of developments since publication. The Comment feature may also be useful for notifying authors about errors in records. Tue, 05 Feb 2008 04:40:29 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) Full citations now the default listing 'view' http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#46 Full citations (rather than author/title only) are now the default view in search results or when browsing in UQ eSpace. The old author/title view is still available as 'Classic Simple View'. There is also a copy-friendly 'Citations Only' view available from the drop-down list of views or by clicking the book icon next to the RSS icon in any search or browse screen. Use the 'Citations Only' view when you want to copy citations into a Word document, CV or other document. This will temporarily hide the download statistics for items while you copy the citation data. Mon, 15 Oct 2007 23:38:00 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) Author names standardised - Author IDs green http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#36 UQ authors in UQ eSpace should now be linked to a single author ID sourced from the HR system. This will tie together all different versions of names so that statistics and search results for individual authors are unified. Those names linked with author IDs should appear in green. Non-linked names will be in pale blue (the normal colour for links on UQ eSpace). Some records do not yet have the correct author ID linkage. Thus, statistics for such authors may be inaccurate. This affects only a small subset of authors due to problems encountered when the records were migrated from ePrintsUQ. These records are currently being edited to add correct author IDs. Sat, 09 Jun 2007 07:29:02 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) Top 50 Authors now based on Author ID http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#35 The top 50 authors statistics are now based on author ID linked record downloads, rather than being based on author name string matches. This leads to greater accuracy in statistics calculation for authors who had records under many different author name strings. Accuracy will be improved once more authors are linked to their records with their UQ eSpace author id. We will be releasing some code updates in the coming days to make identification of the author id linkage visible so linking can be made easier by repository managers. Wed, 06 Jun 2007 13:40:51 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) eSpace full website statistics now available (AWStats) http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#32 We know how interesting statistics can be so we have now opened our full website statistics. These statistics are powered by the AWStats software. Click the last link on the eSpace homepage under Download Statistics to see them. Sat, 26 May 2007 01:53:15 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) Download Statistics fixed and up to date http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#31 The problem with download statistics has now been resolved and they are up to date. Tue, 15 May 2007 01:55:47 c.kortekaas@library.uq.edu.au (Christiaan Kortekaas) Updates to UQ eSpace http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#29 New features have recently been added to UQ eSpace. Advanced search is now enabled, allowing you to search by multiple criteria. Search results can now be sorted by date, as well as by title or search relevance. My UQ eSpace has also been updated. Click on Collections when you log in to navigate quickly to collections in which you have rights to create records. Sat, 28 Apr 2007 06:08:23 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) Citation data being imported into UQ eSpace for use in RQF http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#27 Citation data from a range of UQ sources will soon be batch imported into UQ eSpace. Sources include data feeds from the ResearchMaster system (the annual DEST reporting system), UQ staff-nominated records from the UQ Cited database (Thomson/ISI data), and some material from UQ ReSEARCHers. This data is being imported to create a body of citation data that can be used, if required, for the RQF. The batch import will mean this data will appear 'automatically' in UQ eSpace, therefore it will not need to be manually added. If you are interested in manually adding citations to UQ eSpace, but do not want to duplicate material that you know currently exists in other systems, please consult the UQ eSpace co-ordinator for advice prior to deposit by emailing espace@library.uq.edu.au. Fri, 20 Apr 2007 23:39:01 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) 'Clone Record' now available http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#25 Users with 'create' rights in UQ eSpace can now clone items in the repository. Clone is useful when you want to create a record similar to a record you have created before - say with the same authors, or for the same journal or subject area. You may also wish to clone a record when you are depositing a journal article version of a work originally submitted as a conference paper. Once you have cloned the record, you will need to edit the new record's information. You may also need to attach another file to it. When an individual record is displayed, the 'Clone Record' icon should appear along with the 'Create' icon (a pencil). Thu, 05 Apr 2007 03:28:37 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) UQ eSpace records harvested http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#24 Openly available records in UQ eSpace have recently been harvested by the OAIster service, a meta-search for digital repositories worldwide. OAIster currently indexes more than 750 digital collections, including open access journals, e-theses, working paper archives and museum collections. Records will be available through OAIster soon, which should greatly increase their visibility. Thu, 29 Mar 2007 00:07:30 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver) Former ePrintsUQ Users http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/news.php#18 ePrintsUQ has now closed for submission purposes. The material in ePrintsUQ is currently being migrated to this repository, UQ eSpace. UQ staff can deposit material in UQ eSpace now. Material goes into collections under specific communities. In most cases, your school or centre will be your community. (One exception is schools or centres involved in current research assessment trials: the community for that material is RQA 2007. RQA 2007 data entry instructions are here). For non-RQA materials, please deposit work in the Publications of the ... collection for your school or centre. Instructions on deposit are here. If you cannot locate a collection for your school or centre, please email espace@library.uq.edu.au Sat, 16 Dec 2006 03:59:07 b.weaver@uq.edu.au (Belinda Weaver)
